Testimonies of Healing

As a child I took great interest in reading about the healing works of our Master, as they are recorded for us in the New Testament. Then in later years, when a great deal of disease and heartache occurred in our family, I often thought how happy was the situation in Jesus' time, when people could take their sick ones to him.

I have had so many healings through Christian Science that it is difficult to know which to mention first. Soon after I returned from England in 1920 typhoid fever manifested itself.

In the fall of 1913 my mother-in-law asked me to try Christian Science for chronic constipation. I knew nothing about Christian Science, but to please her I went to a practitioner and was healed in one treatment.

In my early childhood I knew nothing of Christian Science, and very little of any religion. When I was still quite young I became a member of an orthodox church.

When Christian Science was first brought to my attention about eighteen years ago I was a slave to tobacco, having used it constantly since childhood. As I grew older I began to realize that there was nothing beneficial in the use of tobacco, for I saw that it was becoming injurious to my health and detrimental to my social respect.

I, too , feel impelled to give thanks for the great good which has come into my life since I began studying Christian Science. In a time of great need, when my husband was very ill and had to live apart from me, loving friends drew our attention to Christian Science.

I found Christian Science at a time when my sense of joy seemed turned to sorrow and disappointment. What glorious freedom from these bonds came with the light that Christian Science shed on the problem! I soon understood that joy comes from the only source of true giving, God, the All-in-all; and that reversing the fable that God's child can be deprived of one quality of good, replacing it with the blessed spiritual fact that joy is from God, who is ever present, the only power, the only Mind, and who loves all, brings true joy, strength, and courage in the hour of need.

In April, 1922, I had been ill for fourteen years and was gradually getting worse. During this time I had had six medical attendants, who all agreed that I was suffering from a very serious nervous complaint and that I should never be able to walk again.

Gratitude being a spiritual idea, its activity brought to bear on our problems helps to solve them. I have demonstrated this for myself many times.

Christian Science has been my only physician for more than twenty-five years, and during that time there have been many healings which have proved its efficacy, as well as many times when I have been protected from untoward experiences. The instant availability of the truth as taught in Christian Science to help in time of need was demonstrated not long ago in my experience in such a positive and convincing way that I feel I must express my gratitude for this healing.
