Testimonies of Healing

At the time Christian Science found me I was a hopeless sufferer, struggling to find God and knowing I could be made well if only I could understand Him. After six years of suffering I was almost at the end, for the best physicians I could find in Houston, Texas, told me they could do nothing more for me.

A number of years ago some friends invited me to attend a Wednesday evening testimony meeting. I attended several meetings after that, and was much impressed with what I heard; but I did not accept Christian Science at that time.

Christian Science was first lovingly presented to me by a friend sixteen years ago, when our son, then about eight months old, had been under the care of a physician for some time, suffering from malaria. The doctor had used every means that he knew of to prevent the return of the chills and fever, but without success.

For some time previous to my knowing anything about Christian Science I had felt disappointed with the results of my religion. I had been brought up in the Church of England, but felt in the latter years that I was not getting what the Bible promised.

I wish to express my gratitude for the many blessings that have come to me through the study of Christian Science. I decided to try it for the overcoming of constipation of eight years' standing.

It is my desire publicly to express a measure of the gratitude that I daily feel for what Christian Science has done for me. Over six years ago, after the birth of our fourth child, I was in despair over my lack of strength and health.

Gratitude to God and to Christian Science prompts me to give my testimony. For four years I suffered from a nervous stomach complaint and great physical weakness.

I first heard of Christian Science in 1899. A copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was handed to me.

While I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing, many discordant conditions have been overcome, among them a fibroid tumor that the doctor had said could be cured only by an operation and a dislocated knee joint of long standing. Eyeglasses which oculists had told me I would always have to wear have been discarded.

When Christian Science was first brought to my notice I could not accept it because I could not understand it, the reason for this being, as I now see, that I seemed to be so steeped in materiality. Then came the healing through Christian Science treatment of an open wound, which was the result of an operation I had had.
