Testimonies of Healing
I was at home one day when an airplane crashed, demolishing a church at the back of our apartment building and setting fire to our building. For a few minutes, as the building swayed and objects flew around, it did not seem possible that I could be saved.
In joyful gratitude for all the blessings that have come to me, to mine, and to all through the study and application of Christian Science, I wish to share the following experience. While I was visiting our daughter and her family in another state, a growth, accompanied by pain and dizziness, appeared behind my ear.
I think it is high time for me to express through the channels provided by the Christian Science periodicals the gratitude which I owe to the teachings of Christ Jesus and of Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, and which I feel for all that the study of Science has brought to me.
The disciples asked Jesus ( John 9:2 ), "Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?" "Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. " Jesus' statement was a great comfort to me after I began the study of Christian Science.
Several summers ago, while working in a lumberyard, I was unloading some heavy pieces of scrap lumber. In an effort to lift one from the truck I lost my balance, and, still clinging to the lumber, I fell backward off the truck.
One evening I suddenly became ill with a kidney condition which was so painful that it was necessary for me to telephone a Christian Science practitioner for help. I knew that I was dealing primarily with a false mental state, a condition of thought, a state of aggressive mental suggestion, not of matter.
I had been a sickly child and had come close to death several times. However, I had a great love for God, whom I imagined to be someone way off in heaven.
It is with a grateful heart that I acknowledge the goodness and ever-presence of God. A number of years ago, I was afraid of many things—of losing my mind, of doing something I should not do, of being alone.
For many years Christian Science has met all my needs and those of my family. Because of the blessings I have received as a result of an absolute reliance upon God, I know the importance of being alert to recognize erroneous thinking and to replace quickly with declarations of the truth of God's allness the suggestion of another power.
I have many reasons to be grateful for Christian Science, but the healing which has given me the most joy and cause for gratitude is the overcoming of intense fear suffered when alone in the dark. I had been nervous in the dark for many years.
