Having been in a cyclone about twenty years ago, for a long time thereafter I had a fear of windstorms. After I had gained some understanding of Christian Science and realized that God. omnipotent Love, does protect, this fear was somewhat overcome and a feeling of greater security came to me when apparently threatened by windstorms.
As if error would attempt to try our faith in Him in whom is all life, we were awakened one night by a cyclone, which, from the noise, seemed violent. I immediately arose from bed with the declaration that God is not manifested in storms, and that there is no real power apart from Him; that He is all good, and ever present; and that His idea, man, is always protected. At once the thought came to me of Jesus' rebuke to the wind and waves, from the seeming danger of which his disciples appealed to him on the sea. Then the words, "Peace, be still," "Thus far and no farther," came to me. By the time my thoughts were clear on this the cyclone was over, and I retired with a gratitude and peace which I had never experienced before. There was also the understanding that error has no power to harm when faced by the truths of Being.
The next morning we found that no one was hurt, beyond slight bruises, although around and near by some dwellings had been injured and trees had been uprooted. There were other evidences of the severity of the storm. It had damaged property before arriving at our town, but lasted until it had gone only a few miles farther, and with lessening fury.
