Before I became interested in...

From the January 1942 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Before I became interested in Christian Science I had no interest in any religion. When it was presented to me, poor health and business troubles were making me nervous and miserable, so I was ready and eager to try it. Thus Isaiah's prophecy was fulfilled in my experience: "I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them." Day by day thereafter I was freed from limiting and penalizing beliefs, health was restored, and business ceased to be a problem, while the desire for growth in Science became my chief aim in life.

Just as soon as I could, I joined the local branch church and The Mother Church, and how I rejoice in my progress since then! One of my first healings, which stands out prominently, occurred just a few months after my starting to study Science. We were traveling by automobile from Arizona to California, going over crooked desert roads, when I had a sick headache. It was not overcome, and as I was wondering what to do I commenced singing one of Mary Baker Eddy's hymns (Poems, p. 14), which starts with the words, "Shepherd, show me how to go." Instantly I was healed, and we went on our way rejoicing. On our return home I had another healing. In getting out of the automobile I badly sprained my ankle. In about an hour the ankle was healed. I had formerly believed that my ankles were weak; this belief was healed, and the condition has never troubled me since.

Another instantaneous healing was of influenza. I was kept in bed with a high temperature. A consecrated practitioner was called, and she recommended that I get up and read. I was obedient, and after about fifteen minutes of reading I was instantly and perfectly healed.
