The publishing of this testimony is in order to express my deep appreciation for Christian Science and for what it has accomplished in the way of reformation in my consciousness; also for all the blessings it has brought to my fellow men. It is given with the desire that my experience may encourage others who are seeking relief from various kinds of human suffering.
More than thirty years ago, and in an hour of great need, Christian Science was brought to my attention by a brother and sister-in-law. At that time my state of mind was at a very low ebb; I was frightened, discouraged, and depressed at the outlook upon the future. I was extremely ill with nervous prostration and was under the care of a physician. This physician was a man of high moral character and standing in the community, and I shall ever be grateful for his kindness and patience in exerting his knowledge of medicine to relieve my sufferings, although they were without success. Medical science had failed me, and I lacked any form of faith or belief in God for comfort; I was indeed most miserable. At last in desperation I went to see a Christian Science practitioner. Verily it was a case of "man's extremity" being "God's opportunity."
My freedom came slowly, but during the following year the disease was completely healed. I shall never forget the loving spirit and tireless efforts on the part of the practitioner who stood by me when the way was hard and slow. I can now honestly say I am grateful that the slow healing forced me to read and study the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings, for, as a consequence, I became deeply interested in Christian Science and a devout student of its teachings.
