In the Gospel of John we read the following words of Christ Jesus (14:16): "I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever." Christian Scientists everywhere rejoice daily that Jesus' prayer and prophecy have been fulfilled in Christian Science. They recognize that the promised Comforter is this Science, which God, the Father, has given us through its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy.
The Comforter was a divine revelation to Mrs. Eddy and is not of human origination. The very name, "Comforter," conveys its nature; for peace and healing immediately come to thought, and Christian Science is bringing peace and healing to great numbers. The many avenues through which Christian Science, or the Comforter, reaches mankind are provided for by Mrs. Eddy in the Manual of The Mother Church, which constitutes the government of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. The Rules and By-Laws contained in the Church Manual are God-impelled and are destined to bless and help the Christian Scientist in working out his salvation.
Among the avenues through which the Comforter reaches humanity are the church services held in accordance with the Manual. At the services of The Mother Church and its branches the pastor is the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy.
