CHURCH-GOING AND ITS RICH REWARDS

From the November 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

EVERY Christian Scientist accepts Mrs. Eddy's definition of the spiritual idea of "Church" in Science and Health as "the structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle" (p. 583). And as Scientists we know that by every thought we think, we are either in or out of the true Church.

The individual who cultivates an awareness of the spiritual Church becomes alert, precise, discriminating and incisive in his acceptance of thoughts, determining immediately whether they proceed from God, divine Principle, or from a mortal mind concept of living and acting. This spiritually alert type of thinking prepares one well for going to and taking part in the work of the human institution, church, whose purpose is to reveal God's government to men.

In order, then, that we may really enter into the full benefits of activity in the institution, church, it is imperative first that each of us be in entire accord with divine Principle. This accord is of course entirely individual and must be accomplished in the secret recesses of one's own thought.
