THE DEMONSTRATION OF FREEDOM

From the November 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

HOW may we gain the enjoyment of God's ever-bountiful blessings of good? How may we attain freedom from bondage to materiality? Christ Jesus helpfully showed us the way when he said (John 8:31, 32), "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

Freedom, appearing in our human experience, is the result of accurately, actively knowing the truth, not of vaguely, passively believing it. Basically we need to know the truth of being, the truth of the freedom which man eternally enjoys as the perfect creation of perfect God. Then we need to apply this knowledge specifically.

Bondage, on the other hand, is due to a lack of our knowing the truth and applying it. Bondage is due to our believing in a creator and a creation in addition to or apart from infinite God and His infinite manifestation.
