After having had only two and a half...

From the May 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

After having had only two and a half years of high school, I left in order to help support my parents and sisters during the depression years. When I later became a student of Christian Science, I mentioned my limited training to a practitioner. She reminded me that there was no reason why I could not complete my education, even though I was married and had two small children. She said, "You go home and do prayerful metaphysical work to understand what true education is." I did just that. I realized that God is the all-knowing Mind and that man in his real selfhood expresses God's omniscience.

Within thirty days I was drafted into the Armed Forces. People felt sorry for me; but I assured them that only good was awaiting me, and I was confident that this development was the result of the prayerful work I was doing.

While I was in the service, I inquired about the opportunity to continue my education and learned that because I had been out of school for thirteen years, I would have to take five written tests to determine my standing. During the tests I turned my thoughts completely to Mind, knowing that man reflects divine intelligence.
