CLAIMING OUR GOD-PROVIDED SECURITY

From the May 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In this modern world there are many helpful ways and means afforded by government, business, and private individuals to provide some form of insurance for individual future needs. Some people who are unable to avail themselves of such measures are disheartened because they feel that they are denied provision for their advancing years. They should ask themselves, "What of God and His ever-present, continuous, constant source of provision for man?" Let them ponder the fact that God provides all that is necessary for man, His image and likeness, who is the expression of the fullness and completeness of His all-inclusive creation. This provision remains forever the same, and man has it now!

"Security for the claims of harmonious and eternal being is found only in divine Science," writes Mrs. Eddy on page 232 of Science and Health. Divine Science shows how mankind can claim true security as his own. Because sought in Soul instead of matter or material sense, security is in God's keeping. Through the spiritualization of thought it will truly be discerned that God has indeed blessed all His children with unlimited spiritual resources which are always at hand and continuously available. Abiding security will come to those who know that as the reflection of God they have eternally this provision of good, which cannot be depleted. Since it is spiritual it constantly renews itself from its spontaneous, inexhaustible source.

These facts are verified in the Bible. This sacred book tells of mankind's recognition of God's great love and of how He sent His Word and healed men of their afflictions and distresses. Again and again God speaks through the inspired word of a holy scribe, telling mankind not to be afraid since He is present to bless, guide, and deliver them from evil. He tells them to be at peace and to be strong in the truth. Accordingly, all men can rejoice with the Psalmist and sing (Ps. 36:7, 8): "How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures."
