GOING TO CHURCH

From the May 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Going to church is an enriching activity. By attending regularly both the Sunday services and the Wednesday testimony meetings members of Churches of Christ, Scientist, have the privilege of taking part in this activity and are blessed immeasurably.

Sometimes the tempter would induce us to believe that we do not need to attend every church meeting or service. We should be alert to reject this evil suggestion instantly and to see it for what it really is— an effort to deprive us of a blessing and of the opportunity to share in bringing a blessing to others in our community who have come to learn of the healing truths revealed in Christian Science. The suggestion sometimes takes the subtle form of telling us that we have been very faithful in our church attendance over a period of many years, and that, certainly, we are now entitled once in a while just to stay at home or to engage in some other activity.

When guests invited to our homes arrive, we are ready and waiting to greet them and to give them a glad welcome. As members of a Church of Christ, Scientist, we have approved the reading of a notice by the First Reader which says, in effect, that all are invited to attend our church services and Wednesday meetings. Then, as members of the church, should we not endeavor to be on hand to welcome all who accept our invitation to come and hear how and why Christian Science heals mankind of sin, sickness, and discords of all kinds?
