Some people yearn to be as free as the birds, the stars, or the open sea. But Jesus' words indicate a greater magnitude of freedom, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32). If our youth are ascending to the degree of liberty this verse expresses, we can let them go forth into life as free as can be.
Knowing the truth presented in Christian Science can accomplish the sum total of freedom. And the truth is that man, God's perfect, spiritual image and likeness, is eternally free. In several instances Jesus' promises were scientific rules evolved from eternal verities. Obeyed, they demonstrate the harmonious and inevitable ascent to the throne of infinite good, where God reigns supreme and rewards the childlike seeker with boundless liberty and everlasting bliss.
When the young men and women of a Sunday School class were asked what they desired above all else, one and all stated: "To be my own boss." How indicative of the fact that youth yearns for freedom! And indicative also that their concept of freedom may need to be elevated if it is to be satisfying.
