TIME OF NEED

From the May 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

How grateful we are when we hear people testify that they were helped when they turned to God in time of need! But why wait for some specific need? Are we not always in need? If the power of God is adequate to the solution of specific needs, why not recognize this power as the power which animates our every thought and deed in everyday experience? The recognition of God as the only power will lift our experience out of the depths of human suffering into the health and joy of existence as the expression of divine Life. And this is the expression of divine Life, heaven on earth.

The experience of Christ Jesus was in fact the individualized expression of divine Life. His denial of the limitations of the human sense of existence was complete. He said, "I and my Father are one" (John 10:30). How complete is the denial of human parentage in those words and how complete is the acceptance of divine parentage!

The consequence of the Master's acceptance of divine sonship was the perfect, unlimited expression of the Christ in his human experience. He waited for no time of need. His need of the Father was constant, always. Continually looking to the Father, he was always ready to accept and utilize the power to teach and heal, and with Jesus, healing was usually immediate. Wherever he found a person ready for healing and willing to accept his teaching, there was healing with no period of convalescence.
