The understanding of preexistence is vitally important to everyone, because a false sense of man's origin is the foundation of all discord, according to the teachings of Christian Science. This teaching reveals that the individuality and identity of man are based upon a self-existent divine Principle, God, and not on human conception or material birth. Hence, in absolute Science, there is no mortality and there are no mortal beings. Right where they seem to be is the divine Mind and its spiritual ideas expressing immortality.
Before the enlightened era of this appearing of the truth, men generally believed that life began with mortality and that they came into being at birth so many years before, according to the individual's age, as the result of the volition of human parents. But now, through divine Science, God has revealed that man is eternal and has no human origin; that man exists independently of any material organic structure and will continue to exist after the mortal body, which falsely identifies him, returns to its native nothingness.
This Science of true existence, as expressed humanly in the discovery of Christian Science, came through the inspired Word of God as revealed to and inscribed by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. This Science establishes and unfolds the fact that God is the self-existent, divine Principle of all, eternally expressed independent of matter or any other so-called cause. God's idea, man, is the evidence of the spiritual existence of Deity. Because God and man are coexistent and coeternal neither exists without the other.
