ORIGINAL PERFECTION

From the December 1963 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Universal salvation begins with the individual. Christian Science awakens human consciousness and reveals to the receptive thought man's identification with the perfection which is the exact image of God. In this oneness of man with God as His reflection there is no suspension of harmony, order, and dominion.

Because perfection has no gradations, there can be no states and stages of health in scientific being and no retrogression. Through Christian Science we learn to renounce fear of the body as we understand that because health belongs to perfection, it is spiritual, normal, and indestructible. In "Miscellaneous Writing," Mrs. Eddy says (p. 104), "According to Christian Science, perfection is normal,— not miraculous." Health, then, as understood in Christian Science is divinely natural and everlastingly complete.

Mrs. Eddy revealed these sacred facts almost one hundred years ago when, in the face of ridicule and opposition, she proved that radical reliance upon God and His perfection frees one from enslavement to physical disability, subjection to material limitation, and bondage to fear. When she had divested her own thought of the conflicting, confusing arguments opposing Truth, her consciousness became a remarkably clear transparency for the revelation of Christian Science. Her selfless obedience to God's direction culminated in the writing of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Grateful students, who are aware of the priceless purity of this revelation, find it rewarding to exercise the spiritual selfdiscipline and courage required to hold in thought the perfection of God and His perfect creation.
