"Soul has infinite resources with which to bless mankind, and happiness would be more readily attained and would be more secure in our keeping, if sought in Soul." In this statement (Science and Health, p. 60), Mrs. Eddy points the way to relinquish mankind's circumscribed material beliefs and to achieve the immeasurable good that is available through spiritual understanding as revealed in Christian Science.
Through the ages men have been foiled in their pursuit of happiness, believing that happiness was dependent on wealth and that wealth came through the accretion of matter. It is certain, however, that happiness can be attained only by the giving of it. It is not a negative quality but accompanies a positive realization of omnipresent good, which is radiated and expressed by all God's children. True riches are evidenced in the giving which symbolizes Soul's unlimited resources, the affluence which fears no depletion of its measureless abundance.
The false law of limitation which is inseparable from materialism would restrict the enjoyment of good and manifest itself in the poverty which mortal sense claims is so widespread in the world. But poverty is not really a material condition. It is a mental limitation, a paucity of ideas inherent in the circumscribed thought, a belief that matter is substance or reality.
