The prophet Isaiah indicated the universal appearing of the Christ, Truth, to human consciousness when he said (9:6), "Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." The birth of Christ Jesus typified this appearing.
Students of Christian Science endeavor to look beyond the ritualistic and traditional celebrations of this wonderful event to its true meaning. They find that it points to the forever unfolding of Truth, bringing to light the grandeur of the allness of God, the ever-present activity of His power, and the coexistence of man with Him as His reflection. This is the incorporeal Christ, redeeming men from the bondage of false mortal beliefs—sin, sickness, loneliness, and death.
In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy writes (p.29): "The Holy Ghost, or divine Spirit, overshadowed the pure sense of the Virgin-mother with the full recognition that being is Spirit. The Christ dwelt forever an idea in the bosom of God, the divine Principle of the man Jesus, and woman perceived this spiritual idea, though at first faintly developed."
