Testimonies of Healing

Shortly after World War II, I married

From the January 1964 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Shortly after World War II, I married. I soon noticed that my wife had a great faith in the power of prayer to meet human needs. She was somewhat interested in Christian Science, and since I had attended a Christian Science Sunday School intermittently as a child, I was pleased. The alcohol habit had such a hold on me that I drank continually; in fact, I would not get up in the morning without taking a drink. My wife expressed mild concern at this and one evening asked me if I knew the spiritual interpretation of the Lord's Prayer, given in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Since I could not remember it, she repeated the prayer and the interpretation to me slowly and thoughtfully. They begin (p. 16):

"Our Father which art in heaven,
Our Father-Mother God, all-harmonious,

Hallowed be Thy name.
Adorable One."
