"A cup of cold water" was the way I described Christian Science when it was first presented to me. I am grateful to testify to the healing power of this religion, and my gratitude is unbounded for the help I have received from practitioners and through my own study and application of the truth.
A severe case of gallstones was healed within a few weeks' time when my wife and I decided against the operation the doctor had said was unavoidable and turned to God. I do not know just when the trouble disappeared, but immediately I began feeling better than I had for two or three years, and the pain and nausea stopped almost immediately when we informed the doctor of our decision to rely on Science. Our work continued for about a year, until we reached the exalting perception that there was no longer anything to fear.
I should also like to express gratitude for release from smoking cigarettes. I had help from a consecrated practitioner but seemed unable to free myself from this habit. At that time I was earnestly considering joining a branch church, and smoking was the one stumbling block in my progress. One day when I paid a visit to the practitioner, he said quite casually, "When you desire church membership more than you desire smoking, you will find that this habit will leave you."
