Recently I was in a foreign country with a tour group. After a week or so I became ill with an intestinal disturbance. Among the many truths of Christian Science that flooded into my thought was this sentence from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (pp. 203-204): "God is at once the centre and circumference of being." That certainly does not leave any place for illness to be, since God is completely good! I turned away from the mortal evidence of illness to contemplate God's harmonious government of His universe, including me. I studied pages 388-390 in Science and Health, which deal with the subject of food. Here Mrs. Eddy states unequivocally (p. 388), "The fact is, food does not affect the absolute Life of man, and this becomes self-evident, when we learn that God is our Life." This Bible verse was also very comforting to me (Isa. 41: 10): "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee."
I missed only one morning's sightseeing trip; then my physical harmony was completely restored, and I was able to thoroughly enjoy the rest of the tour. How grateful I was to have immediately available the most effective medicine in the world—divine Mind!
I owe all to Christian Science—the powerful truth that our beloved Way-shower, Christ Jesus, taught and practiced, and that our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has expounded so clearly that we can make practical use of it in our daily lives. My heart's thanks go out to all who have enriched my understanding of this great truth—especially to my teacher of Christian Science. Class instruction has enlightened my path, and the yearly association meeting has been invaluable.
