Natural law and physical healing

From the March 1983 issue of The Christian Science Journal

By introducing the concept of God as absolute Principle— universal, immutable, final, supreme—Christian Science throws new light on the origin, existence, and properties of natural law.

From Newton to Einstein, physicists envisioned an orderly "clockwork" universe—a universe of predictable character in everything from microscopic particles to cosmic forces. More recently this neatly ordered concept has given way to a paradoxical new world of quantum physics, in which certain characteristics of randomness and unpredictability prevail, especially at the subatomic level, and the creator is described metaphorically as "a thrower of dice." But physical theories both old and new derive solely from material observations and mathematical formulations. Though beautifully confirmed in new technologies, they still relate only to matter and material phenomena.

The insights of divine Science cut straight through the veil of matter. They disclose new definitions of reality. Science reveals the foundation and source of universal existence to be all-pervading Truth or Mind. On this basis it defines natural law as a moral and mental force. It shows God to be primordial Spirit, and law therefore to be spiritual, not material — the immutable expression and evidence of causative divine Principle.
