Learning from the Master's resurrection

From the March 1983 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Resurrection, or spiritual renewal, is a natural, practical, ongoing event in our journey toward full understanding of God's allness and supremacy. As explained in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, the metaphysical interpretation of "resurrection" is: "Spiritualization of thought; a new and higher idea of immortality, or spiritual existence; material belief yielding to spiritual understanding."Science and Health, p. 593.

Every healing, every victory over evil, no matter how small it seems, furthers our spiritualization of thought and, therefore, our resurrection from matter. This continuing process is joyous, accompanied by angelic assurances of God's love and omnipotence and growing proof of man's spiritual identity and his oneness with his Father-Mother God.

When thinking of resurrection, we naturally turn to the supreme example of our Master, Christ Jesus. Gaining insight into his experience, we are more confident about dealing with challenges that, when met, advance our own daily resurrection. The textbook says of Jesus' immediate disciples: "His resurrection was also their resurrection. It helped them to raise themselves and others from spiritual dulness and blind belief in God into the perception of infinite possibilities."Ibid., p. 34.As we better understand Jesus' resurrection, can't the same be said of us as present-day followers of Christ?
