Testify? I wish I could

From the March 1983 issue of The Christian Science Journal

What a privilege it is to give a testimony in a Church of Christ, Scientist! You have experienced God's great love, and have seen that you are His child, created spiritually perfect. You have been healed. To say "thank you" publicly can help so many. There may be people at the Wednesday evening testimony meeting who need just the encouragement your testimony can give.

But what if you deeply desire to give a testimony and are afraid to? You've sincerely tried to get up and speak, but it seems impossible. You may believe that the people present will judge you or even that you will be shaking so much you won't be able to speak. Perhaps the fear of testifying seems very real.

We can begin by giving thanks right now that we can prove these mental impositions are not real today, they won't be in the future, nor were they ever real in the past. Does fear have a lawful place in church? Is it valid anywhere? We are assured in the first chapter of Genesis in the Bible that God pronounced good everything that He made and He made all. Fear is not good, so it has no legitimate source, nor any connection to man, God's image. Christian Science draws on biblical authority to explain that God is Spirit, Love, everywhere present and literally All. It is impossible that fear could exist or act within this perfection.
