A gift Mrs. Eddy gave to every community was her establishment of free lectures to tell what Christian Science really is, to correct misconceptions of this religion, and to provide an understanding of her life and place as Leader of the worldwide Christian Science movement. "It is the duty of the Board of Lectureship to include in each lecture a true and just reply to public topics condemning Christian Science, and to bear testimony to the facts pertaining to the life of the Pastor Emeritus,"
Manual of The Mother Church, Art. XXXI, Sect. 2. she writes.
The Christian Science Board of Lectureship works diligently and strives to fulfill Mrs. Eddy's vision in what could be seen as a marvelous outreach program provided for in her Church Manual. But the lecturers cannot achieve this goal alone. Every church member is needed to bring about the full fruition of our Leader's purpose. As in every other aspect of church work, when one catches a genuine glimpse of Mrs. Eddy's vision through dedicated prayer and study, activity bursts forth with joy and gladness. Healing ensues.
A Christian Scientist who grasps his Leader's purpose for a lecture will attend the event as a good neighbor—as a good Samaritan! Christ Jesus' parable of the Samaritan
See Luke 10:30-37 tells of a man on his way from Jerusalem to Jericho. Thieves attacked him and stole all that he had, wounded him, and left him half-dead. A priest and a Levite saw the man, but did not go to his aid. Today's world is filled with similar strangers, who on their journey through life have been brutalized by sin, disease, and despair. And, like the priest and Levite in the parable, many ignore them by passing by on the other side.
