If we persist in bringing to life's difficulties a correct understanding of God as perfect and of man as created in His likeness, we will see increasing evidence that our true identity is spiritual and perfect. Such persistence toward realizing the genuine harmony inherent in our true nature might be compared in some ways with the biblical occupation of the Promised Land by the children of Israel.
At the border of Canaan, the Israelites, led by Joshua, saw the possibility of possessing this land of promise. But the formidable city of Jericho blocked their way. Then, according to the Bible, "The Lord said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho .... And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days. . . . And the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. . . . All the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat." Josh. 6:2-5.
This familiar Bible story may be viewed in many ways. It teaches many lessons; one of them is persistence. The persevering marches of the children of Israel paint the proverbial picture worth a thousand words.
