Eternal light

From the April 2011 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One day I received a call to pray from someone who works for a company where he sometimes encounters sad stories from clients.

As I listened to this man, I also listened to God for words of comfort to share. I felt led to say that because I’m a very early riser, when I awake, my bedroom is always in total darkness. Yet, I know that without seeing anything in those moments of temporary darkness, all the beautiful furniture and artwork in my bedroom is still there. I said the challenges that his clients have are like this temporary darkness, but the loving ideas and practical resources that my friend’s company uses to help their clients represent the divine light of Love, which is always shining to help and bless. This line of reasoning was a comfort to us both. We realized, too, that I wasn’t telling him anything; God was telling both of us everything we needed to hear. It was a reminder of His love, visibly and tangibly expressed.

About a week later, I received a little gift in the mail from this fellow. It was a beautiful glass bluebird night light for my bedroom. It works on an automatic sensor, so when it’s darker the light shines brighter. This little bluebird of happiness is a sweet reminder that divine Love never leaves any of us in the dark.
