One morning several years ago, as I studied the Christian Science Bible Lesson for that week on “Sacrament,” I was struck by this citation in the Responsive Reading from Colossians 3:14: “And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.” I literally couldn’t get past those words. I was inspired to pray deeply with that idea, reasoning that charity means to forbear and forgive; and this forgiveness joins us together with others and obligates each one of us to express perfection.
I was also captivated with verse 16 which states, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
I came away from my study that morning with an uplifted and new view of what it means to be joined together with all humankind in a love that sees only perfection, wholeness, and goodness in each other.
