The tree and me, free from damage

From the August 2025 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Two years ago, I invited a friend to come and stay on my property in her caravan (trailer), as she didn’t have a permanent home. I had prayed before making the offer, and it seemed very much the right thing to do. She planned to remain until her situation improved.

I have a large garden, and had arranged for a gardening service to come and prune some of the big trees. Before the gardeners’ arrival, I went away with my family for five days, during which time my friend was going to look after my home.

On my return, I was horrified to find that my favorite tree, one that brought so many people happiness with its beautiful foliage and pink flowers, had been savagely pruned. Several branches had been lopped off and the trunk had been gashed. It looked distorted and ugly.
