Jesus walked over the waves—he didn’t fight his way through the surf. He walked through the angry crowd, untouched by violence. And he taught his followers to do likewise.
When his disciple Peter cut off the ear of the high priest’s servant, who was in the group that came to arrest Jesus, the Master healed the man, saying to Peter, “Put your sword away. I must drink from the cup that the Father has given me” (John 18:11, Contemporary English Version).
Jesus had complete confidence in God’s care for him, regardless of how the circumstances looked. Despite the attacks of evil against Jesus, he was able to say, “This yoke is easy to bear, and this burden is light” (Matthew 11:30, CEV). He saw beyond the false, mortal picture to the truth of God’s heavenly kingdom—harmonious and ever present.
