In preparation for an upcoming Christian Science lecture, a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship invited a small church to pray together about something in their community in need of healing.
A nearby poultry farming area had been hit by avian flu, and the church members knew they wanted to pray about this. Their prayers felt strengthened by the demand for healing, and by the realization that, together, they had something unique to contribute to the solution.
Within 48 hours of the church members’ prayers, the farms and industry were on their way back to normal. City officials expressed surprise at the quick turnaround and news reports confirmed the stoppage of the problem. The members were a bit awestruck by the power of their work. They had fresh appreciation for the place their church held in the community. And their experience showed something of the grand potential of lecture preparation.
