Testimonies of Healing
Before I became interested in Christian Science, at the age of twenty-one, I had all my life been a victim of asthma, from which I never expected to get relief. When invited to attend a Christian Science testimony meeting I accepted, with the thought that I might be entertained; but I did not dream that I would become seriously interested.
" Freely ye have received, freely give. " This Scriptural text impels me to bear witness to the healing truth that came to me at a time of great need some years ago, when a physician told me I must submit to an operation for inflamed, poisoned, and diseased organs that had troubled me for a year.
In the fall of 1919, I was taken seriously ill with influenza. After having medical treatment I became worse, and my mother, who was very much alarmed, wrote to a relative who was a Christian Scientist and asked for Science treatment for me.
Christian Science was first brought to me at a time of great trouble. After a distressing illness my husband passed on, and about ten months later the war started, threatening to deprive me of my sons.
About eleven years ago I heard of Christian Science, and although there was a great deal in it that I did not understand, still there were many things that gave me satisfactory answers to my questions. When I entered the army I despised the "duty" of religious exercises and religious teaching, and only to please my mother did I become a member of a Protestant church.
It has been proved to me many times that a right understanding of Christian Science heals sickness, sorrow, and sin. I am very grateful for a recent proof of this.
About eight years ago I began to attend the Christian Science services at the request of a friend. Through worry and fear I was so run down physically that it was an effort for me to do the simplest task.
In 1919 I heard Christian Science spoken of for the first time. It was brought to me by a young American soldier, a Christian Scientist, whose company was stationed in my town.
All of my early life I was in excellent health, and during eight years of public school teaching missed only three days on account of illness. Then, after a few years of married life, just as we were getting comfortably situated, my health suddenly began to fail, and I was in a deplorable condition for three years.
About twenty-one years ago my husband brought Christian Science into our home. He had been in a miserable physical condition for a number of years and had little hope, if any, of ever being any better, as medical means had brought no cure and very little relief.
