Testimonies of Healing
I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing: in my case it was the sweet reasonableness, the flawless logic, of this new presentation of the old truth which made a strong appeal. I had been carefully taught in religious matters, and was, nominally, a member of an orthodox church, but found no satisfaction in religion, because there were so many things left unexplained.
Christian Science has been my constant help for the past eleven years. There is nothing for which I am more grateful, as it has proved to be a practical religion, not only healing my physical ailments but solving each problem as it presents itself.
Christian Science found me in what is referred to as "man's extremity. " After an illness of six months, seven weeks of which were spent in a hospital under the care of a specialist, it was decided that I should be operated upon.
With the hope that my experience may be helpful, I am gladly sending my testimony. As the result of a so-called law of heredity, my mother having passed on with the disease, I had suffered many months from lung trouble.
My gratitude to God for what Christian Science has done for me comes from my heart. For years I suffered from very painful gallstone colic, and later on from a serious liver complaint.
Before I became interested in Christian Science, at the age of twenty-one, I had all my life been a victim of asthma, from which I never expected to get relief. When invited to attend a Christian Science testimony meeting I accepted, with the thought that I might be entertained; but I did not dream that I would become seriously interested.
" Freely ye have received, freely give. " This Scriptural text impels me to bear witness to the healing truth that came to me at a time of great need some years ago, when a physician told me I must submit to an operation for inflamed, poisoned, and diseased organs that had troubled me for a year.
In the fall of 1919, I was taken seriously ill with influenza. After having medical treatment I became worse, and my mother, who was very much alarmed, wrote to a relative who was a Christian Scientist and asked for Science treatment for me.
Christian Science was first brought to me at a time of great trouble. After a distressing illness my husband passed on, and about ten months later the war started, threatening to deprive me of my sons.
About eleven years ago I heard of Christian Science, and although there was a great deal in it that I did not understand, still there were many things that gave me satisfactory answers to my questions. When I entered the army I despised the "duty" of religious exercises and religious teaching, and only to please my mother did I become a member of a Protestant church.
