Testimonies of Healing
In my childhood's home religion was of the utmost importance, my father being a minister. The Scriptures were studied daily, and much attention was given to church work and social service.
Christian Science was recommended to me about nine years ago by a very dear friend, who was a Christian Scientist. This was after several eminent physicians had told me that the medical profession had nothing further to offer in my case, and after several years' treatment for stomach trouble and extreme nervousness.
When I first heard of Christian Science I was sorely perplexed, feeling that I did not know how to instruct our children with regard to religion. I was dissatisfied with the usual church teaching, and longed to be able to give them better answers to their questions.
About forty years ago, while living in Chicago, I was taken ill with severe sickness. I first called on the family doctor; but after a couple of months of his treatment I woke up to the startling fact that his medicine was not reaching the spot.
From a heart running over with gladness and joy I want to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has been to me these sixteen years. Since girlhood it had always been my desire to be able to read and understand the Bible.
I have every cause to testify to the fact that "the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword. " Two major operations were avoided through the application of Christian Science.
Early in 1921 I was raised from invalidism of a number of years' standing through Christian Science treatment, and since that invocation and demonstration of divine power I have grown in the strength and gladness of spiritual discernment. From childhood my health had been delicate.
In November, some years ago, I began to read, first, the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," then Mrs. Eddy's other books, which I obtained at a Christian Science Reading Room.
In loving gratitude for all the blessings I have received in Christian Science, I give this testimony. The lessons learned in attending the Christian Science Sunday School for a period of ten years have been of great value to me in working out daily problems as they have been presented.
From the time I was eleven years old I suffered from muscular and articular rheumatism, as well as sciatica in its worst form. I was often in bed for months at a time.
