Testimonies of Healing

In the second chapter of I Peter we read, "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. " These words seem to urge me to give the following testimony.

I hope my testimony may help some one else as testimonies related by others have aided me in my search for truth and light. In 1893 the doctors declared I must undergo an operation for internal tumor.

Once , when living in a city of one of our southern states, I was stricken with what was locally called swamp fever. It was at a time when Christian Science was hardly known there, and there were no Christian Science practitioners in the city.

It is now over six years since I was afflicted with a severe cough which my physician informed me could not be cured in this climate—my condition could not stand another winter here. I had occasion to go to Chicago, and on my return I stopped off in Detroit to visit an old friend who was a Christian Science practitioner in whom I had every confidence.

In the spring of 1917 my second oldest daughter developed what the family physician diagnosed as an attack of kidney trouble, or Bright's disease. The little girl having had a similar attack the year before, and the family physician offering no hope of a permanent cure, my wife and I decided to seek help through Christian Science.

I think it is a great privilege as well as a duty to testify to the healing efficacy of God's power as taught and demonstrated in Christian Science. Since coming into Christian Science ten years ago I have had many proofs of God's care.

I became interested in Christian Science about nine years ago. From the beginning I received great help from this teaching and felt that I had come into contact with a practical religion.

I desire to express my sincere gratitude for the many blessings that have come to me since I have taken up the study of Christian Science. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy, was placed in my hands less than three years ago.

For the past seventeen years Christian Science has been my one and only physician, and during that time it has been proved to me, over and over again, that the truth, as revealed in Christian Science, heals all manner of disease quickly and permanently. A few years ago I seemed obsessed by fear of the prevalent influenza, which finally manifested itself so violently in my own case that it threatened to be fatal.

Seventeen months after a very serious operation I was confined to my bed with what the physicians termed tuberculosis of the bowels and intestines. For five months prior to turning to Christian Science for help I was unable to retain any food, and was thought to be in a very serious condition.
