Testimonies of Healing
In the spring of 1917 I became interested in Christian Science. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" was given to my mother to read, and when she had read a little of it she began to tell me about it and I saw at once that Christian Science had the truth for a foundation.
Before I knew anything about Christian Science I was very antagonistic toward it; but the day came when I was glad to turn to it for help, and I have never ceased to be grateful that such was the case. It is just five years ago that my daughter, then ten years old, was pronounced to have a very much enlarged heart and bad leakage, and was put to bed to stay there for three months.
It is a great pleasure to testify to the healing and regenerating power of Christian Science. It found me a most harassed woman, suffering from a great sense of injustice and burdened by a belief of lack.
On the twenty-ninth day of October, 1909, I was asked to go to a Christian Science lecture in Edinburgh,—the first lecture of that kind I had ever heard about. I was not thinking of healing for myself but simply went because a brother had asked me.
In the one hundred and seventh psalm we read, "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy. " It is a great privilege to say so through the Christian Science periodicals, one of the channels so wisely provided for this purpose by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.
IN the hope that my experience may help others to find the sure way out of what is to mortal sense a hopeless situation, I will say that my life, health, and happiness are due to the understanding of God and of man, created by Him in His image and likeness, as explained in Christian Science. Riding in an automobile, a sudden turning by the driver threw me to the paved street, my head struck the street car rail and I became unconscious.
Christian Science came into my experience when I was so young that I cannot remember being without an implicit confidence in God's readiness and power to make life happy for me. This confidence remained and was added to as years passed by, although it seemed as if other people played an important part in the process of healing, and I seldom tried to apply the rules for myself since it was so easy to get help by asking some member of the family for it.
In Isaiah we read, "And it shall come to pass, that before they call. I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.
When I think of the debt I owe to Mary Baker Eddy for the purity of thought which enabled her to conceive of and to present to us the truth, which had for centuries been a hidden mystery, I find myself at a disadvantage to know how to express gratitude. I am, however, daily striving to deserve the "well done" which comes when one has passed through the three stages of growth mentioned by Mrs.
I wish to testify to a healing which took place in our home. Our cousin, a child of a few years, was taken sick with tuberculosis.
