Testimonies of Healing
From my early teens up until the past seven or eight years, I had been troubled with chronic constipation. Every one knows what various other disorders arise from that, mainly chronic appendicitis, from which I suffered over two years.
I gratefully subscribe my tribute of gratitude to Christian Science for the many blessings I have received therefrom. About five weeks ago my little boy was taken very suddenly ill, just after being put to bed, with all the symptoms of pneumonia.
It is indeed a great joy to bear testimony to the power of God through the teachings of Christian Science. Exactly seven years ago I had arrived at that condition known as man's extremity, having suffered over a year from acute neurasthenia, and for ten years prior to that suffered for a period in each year from a nervous breakdown.
For more than twenty years I have shared the blessings which Christian Science brings to those who turn to it for help. During these years this truth about God and man in His image and likeness has healed me in times of sickness and comforted me when sorrow and distress have seemed very real.
With a desire to express my gratitude through the channel which our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, provided for that purpose, I embrace the privilege, knowing that in this way it will reach around the world and bear witness to the healing and comforting power of Truth. The peace, happiness, and contentment radiated in the lives of Christian Scientists was what first attracted me to make a search for the teachings of this new-old religion.
In the spring of 1917 I became interested in Christian Science. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" was given to my mother to read, and when she had read a little of it she began to tell me about it and I saw at once that Christian Science had the truth for a foundation.
Before I knew anything about Christian Science I was very antagonistic toward it; but the day came when I was glad to turn to it for help, and I have never ceased to be grateful that such was the case. It is just five years ago that my daughter, then ten years old, was pronounced to have a very much enlarged heart and bad leakage, and was put to bed to stay there for three months.
It is a great pleasure to testify to the healing and regenerating power of Christian Science. It found me a most harassed woman, suffering from a great sense of injustice and burdened by a belief of lack.
On the twenty-ninth day of October, 1909, I was asked to go to a Christian Science lecture in Edinburgh,—the first lecture of that kind I had ever heard about. I was not thinking of healing for myself but simply went because a brother had asked me.
In the one hundred and seventh psalm we read, "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy. " It is a great privilege to say so through the Christian Science periodicals, one of the channels so wisely provided for this purpose by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.
