Testimonies of Healing
It was not until all other means of help were found wanting, that I consented to try Christian Science. A minor and a so-called dangerous operation had left me better for a short time only.
Before coming into Christian Science I hardly ever knew what it was to be free from bilious headache and bowel trouble, for which I took medicine daily for some fifteen years. It is about four years since I began the study of Christian Science and during that time we have not had medicine of any kind in the house, but have relied wholly on the truth.
It is with a deep sense of gratitude for what Christian Science has done and is doing for me and mine that I write this testimony. I was an invalid for over twenty-five years.
From childhood I was constantly under the doctors' care. After an attack of influenza and eight months spent in a sanatorium, I passed through the next winter worse than ever before.
On reading in Psalms, "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy," I realized it was time that my gratitude and love for Christian Science were expressed; for it has proved to me that it is the truth that heals both sickness and sin. I was brought up in a strict orthodox church, but later on drifted away from things religious and even ceased to pray, for I could not honestly say, "Thy will be done.
The first reading of the chapter on Prayer in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" confirmed beyond doubt my opinion of what man's relation to God should be, for while I had never prayed as Mrs. Eddy teaches us to pray, yet I had a firm conviction that God was ever present and there was a way by which man could reach the divine ear.
I feel it is my duty to tell of a wonderful demonstration in mental surgery. My husband and I are in the theatrical profession, and during the performance one evening he fell to the floor from a height of sixteen or eighteen feet, landing on his face and hands, unconscious.
In the spring of 1911 I became very ill, and my physician was of the opinion that I had kidney disease. As time went on my condition became worse.
Christian Science came into my life about eight years ago, but while having a slight knowledge of the truth, for some time I did not apply it in the adjustment of the seeming disturbances which to mortal sense are so much a part of one's physical and financial conditions. For several years my work was that of a traveling salesman, and it was necessary for me to be on the road nearly all the time.
Christian Science came into my life eleven years ago, and though I did not seek it for physical healing at the time, I was struck with its logic and the wonderful new light it throws on the nature of God as Love, the Father-Mother of man made in His image and likeness. It has brought innumerable blessings into my life and every need in our home has been supplied.
