Testimonies of Healing
When Christian Science was first brought to my notice in March, 1912, I lived with my children in the northwestern part of Russia. My husband had lung trouble and was told by the doctors that he could never again pass the cold months there, so he spent ten years in Nice, France, and its environments, returning to our country only for a few summer months.
My first healing, about fourteen years ago, was from the effects of an accident in which my back was injured. This injury, together with other physical troubles, so affected the spine that I was rendered practically helpless and had to stay in bed.
I wish to express my appreciation of the good that Christian Science has brought to me. I have not taken any material remedy since beginning the study of this teaching about five years ago.
It is with a heart filled with gratitude that I testify to the healing and regenerative powers of Christian Science. It was not until materia medica had been given a thorough test and found wanting that I turned to the healing Christ.
I would hereby express my gratefulness for the Lord's Prayer and for its enrichment by the better understanding given us through its spiritual interpretation by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, as found on page 16 of Science and Health.
About fifteen years ago, when I became interested in Christian Science, I was attacked with inflammatory rheumatism. After trying for nearly a week to help myself with the little I knew of this teaching, I went to see a practitioner, as the condition was getting worse, and in one treatment was instantaneously healed.
I turned to Christian Science when one physician after another had told me that one very dear to me could never get well, that she might live for an indefinite length of time but it would be an existence of constant pain, so severe that drugs must continually be used to control it. I saw this dear one freed from these agonizing attacks through Christian Science.
It was in April, 1911, that I first heard of Christian Science, at a time when I was lying sick in bed and did not know what to do to obtain relief. My nerves were so greatly affected that I was hardly able to stand upright.
About fifteen years ago we were living quite near the Christian Science church in this city, so a friend asked me if I would like to go to a Wednesday evening meeting, and I said I would; but as she was not a Scientist I put off going from time to time. When spring came we moved away, and I thought no more of it.
Some time ago while at work in a factory, I operated a large planer, which was driven by a heavy belt traveling at the rate of over sixty-six thousand inches a minute. One day when I was passing under this belt it broke, striking me in the head and face and rendering me unconscious.
