Testimonies of Healing
Christian Science found me four years ago in the very depths of despair. I had tried all kinds of medicine for relief from nervousness and was also operated upon, but was no better.
I wish to express my gratitude for the help I have received through Christian Science. When I was five years old I was healed of scarlet fever and measles, later of smallpox, severe stomach trouble of several years' standing, a gun wound, hysterics, nervousness, and many minor ills.
When Christian Science first came to me I was in a wilderness of the darkest kind, and a harvester of tares. After reading the testimonies in the Journal and the Sentinel that my daughter had found in a railroad coach, I remarked to my wife, "This is my last chance, for I have taken enough medicine to float a ship, without any help;" so we started to find out where we could procure a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and were led to the Christian Science Society of Wallace, Idaho, where my wife procured a copy of this book.
For several years I had the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday school, and for the inspiring instruction received there I can only show my gratitude by letting my light so shine before men that I may glorify my Father which is in heaven. The study of the Bible in connection with Science and Health has made that book very dear and practical to me.
Some four years ago I became ill and unhappy, and as I was not getting much relief from materia medica, a friend recommended Christian Science, and I decided to give it a trial. Before going to the practitioner I went into the Christian Science reading room, and picking up the little book, "Rudimental DivineScience" by Mrs.
Christian Science came to me when I was greatly in need both mentally and physically. Within thirty days after I took up the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures'' by Mrs.
In 1911, after I had been ill for months, unable to eat, or to retain even a drink of water, or to help myself in any way, two physicians declared my case hopeless unless I consented to an operation. At this time there was in our home a friend who had been healed in Christian Science and had at times presented this truth to me.
I first attended a Christian Science service in August, 1912. After several years' invalidism I had been gradually turning to God, convinced that "it is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing.
Having suffered much from weak arches and bunions I made an appointment with a surgeon for an operation on my feet, but three days before this was to be performed I was persuaded to try Christian Science. This resulted in a quick healing and a wonderful spiritual uplift.
About five years ago I first became interested in Christian Science. I was in perfect health but was suffering mental unrest, and this burden was not lifted till I understood God as revealed in Science and Health.
