Testimonies of Healing

Some years ago while I was in the regular company of one particular man through work we were doing together, I began to feel very attracted physically to him. He had told me that he could read other people's minds and had implied he knew how to manipulate others.

I was eleven years old when my mother was led to investigate Christian Science. Mother had been a faithful member of a Christian church but had become dissatisfied with it when she was in her twenties.

I am a third-generation Christian Scientist and am very grateful to have been raised in Christian Science. I am particularly grateful for the clear understanding I gained in the Christian Science Sunday School that all difficulties can be resolved by our turning to God.

In 1913 my parents sent me from a small town in the central United States to a large city on the West Coast to attend college. They hoped the climate there would help me cope with the severe attacks of asthma I had been suffering from for years.

At one point a recurring illness caused me great distress, and I prayed to overcome it. The condition seemed to follow a course and lasted several hours.

My parents became interested in Christian Science when I was about two, and there were many healings in our family, including my healing of a broken leg when I was eight. After I was grown and married, on the several occasions when our children were young and I was wakened in the night to find them feeling ill, what a sense of gratitude and peace I felt to know that Christian Science treatment is an immediate help.

Twenty years ago personal experience and university studies of psychology and philosophy led me to lose confidence in conventional material medicine, and I resolved not to have medical treatment for any reason from that point on. Some years later, after I had studied and experimented with homeopathy, naturalism, yoga, theosophy, and Buddhism, a great trial presented itself.

Our family has witnessed many healings through the study of Christian Science, but the following ones stand out. Shortly before the birth of our third daughter the doctor told us that there were physical complications that could cause the baby's death during delivery.
