Testimonies of Healing

Words can never express the great gratitude I feel for Christian Science. It has been our only physician, never failing to meet every need when we have lived in accordance with its teachings.

Over twenty years ago I was healed of spinal arthritis and the smoking habit through Christian Science. While these healings were taking place I learned something of the truth of God and man and of their relationship to each other.

My mother became interested in Christian Science when I was two years old. She continued her study, at that time in the face of great opposition, and I should be remiss if I did not express my gratitude for her patience and perseverance.

I have always been a student of Christian Science; but most of the healings I had while I was young were brought about with the help of my mother and a practitioner. However, after my senior year in high school I went to Finland and stayed for two months with a Finnish family.

Ten years ago it became necessary for me to return to a small city in which I had spent my early years and to assume responsibility for the operation of family-owned business interests. Mrs.

When I was five years old I asked my mother, "Why don't we heal the sick as Jesus has told us to do?" My mother's explanation that spiritual healing was only for the time of Jesus and his disciples was something I could not accept. Later, at the age of twelve, I heard a doctor laugh at a woman who, he said, thought the sick could be healed by prayer.

A number of years ago, when a loved one passed on, I turned to Christian Science and found a great sense of peace and love. A very dear friend introduced me to this wonderful and practical religion.

When my mother was a young married woman, she became ill with a serious internal disorder. The doctor attending her stated that an operation was essential.

The home in which I was reared was filled with deep religious faith, and my early memories are of church and prayer. This faith was somewhat shaken, however, by constant illness and a feeling of inadequacy during my early married life, and I found myself asking if there was a God.

In the summer of 1958 I had an attack of shingles. I was not fearful and began to do prayerful work for myself, as we learn to do in Christian Science.
