Testimonies of Healing
When living in an apartment house where laundry work had to be done in the basement in an old-fashioned machine with an electric wringer, I learned that erroneous suggestions should be denied reality as soon as they present themselves. The first time I went to the basement to wash, our son went with me and was helping me to wring the clothes.
Our family have been healed of many physical conditions, including hemorrhoids, tonsillitis, severe pain, influenza, fever, cuts, burns, sprained ankle, colitis, and constipation. God has been our only physician and Mind our only medicine for more than eight years.
As a Navy aviator during the Second World War, I was in command of a large patrol plane and a thirteen-man crew. Before each flight we repeated the Lord's Prayer in unison and read aloud the ninety-first Psalm.
At a time of mental despondency and physical illness, I was told by a kind and sincere physician that he could help me no further and that what I needed was spiritual help. It was thought-provoking to me to have a medically trained specialist tell me that God could do something that he could not do.
How grateful I am to be able to testify to the healing power of Christian Science! My first year as teacher of a first grade class was extremely difficult. With the help of a Christian Science practitioner and of a friend who was also a school teacher, I was able to finish the school term.
Christian Science first came to my attention when as a young woman I was employed in a large city, but I did not take up its study at that time. Later, my mother, a practical nurse, became interested in Christian Science through one of her patients.
Christian Science came into our home as the result of my mother's prayer for a sound and happy way to bring up her children. Ever since I can remember, we have relied entirely on this Science in our family for the solution of all problems.
I did not consciously seek Christian Science, but I was invited to attend a service in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. It was an entirely new experience for me, but it must have been what I had been looking for, because for about twenty-one years I have never attended any other church.
I am very grateful for the Christian Science Sunday School, for the guidance received by the children, and for the privilege of teaching where the teacher also learns that God is the only real teacher. When attending high school, I was introduced to Christian Science by some small children with whom I stayed while their parents attended church.
Having been reared in a home where regular church attendance and daily family worship were among my earliest recollections, I learned to love the Bible and to a certain extent make use of its teachings in my daily life. However, I was never satisfied with my religious outlook, and for ten years I had sought in vain for relief from anemia.
