Testimonies of Healing
When I first began to read the articles in the Christian Science periodicals I felt that they would help me to learn to be more loving. I admired those who expressed love and kindness toward their fellow man, and I desired to do likewise.
I have long had an urge to write of the gratitude I feel for Christian Science, but because the establishment of health, happiness, and financial competence has come so naturally into my experience, there seems little to relate except the gradual but steady spiritual progress that has been mine through the consecrated, though often stumbling, practice of its truths as they have been unfolded. Nonetheless, and perhaps because of this continuous growth, my gratitude has deepened into that which cannot easily be translated into words without seeming uneventful and commonplace.
I should like to relate a healing I received through Christian Science of a malignant growth. Because a member of my family, who is not a Christian Scientist, urged me to go to a physician for an examination, I consented, but I made it clear that I would not accept any medical treatment.
In gratitude for the help received from the testimonies of healing as published in the Journal and the Christian Science Sentinel, I should like to relate the following experiences. My first healing was of chronic tonsillitis, and it was instantaneous.
God's great goodness to man is revealed through Christian Science. For many years I have relied on this Science and have had many wonderful healings, such as those of catarrh, diphtheria, an unhappy disposition, and many faults of character.
All power is given unto our Lord, On Him we place reliance; With truth from out His sacred word We bid our foes defiance. With Him we shall prevail, Whatever may assail; He is our shield and tower, Almighty is His power; His kingdom is forever.
" I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord" ( Ps. 118:17 ).
I wish to express my gratitude for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church and for the privilege of serving the Cause of Christian Science. Many years ago, after I had been attending a Christian Science church for some time, I began to have a great sense of gratitude for what the church was doing for me and had a desire to become a member in order that I might help the Cause that I was learning to love.
Some years ago I was away on holiday with a friend who I knew attended a Church of Christ, Scientist; so I asked if I might go along to a service with her. The subject of the Lesson-Sermon as given in the Christian Science Quarterly that week was "God," and I was so impressed with the peace and calm of the beautiful service that I decided then and there I had found the religion I wanted.
Words alone cannot express my gratitude for Christian Science, of which I have been a student for several years. Blessings beyond my power to describe have come to me through the study and application of this Science, and many healings have been experienced.
