Testimonies of Healing
At an early age I lost faith in the teachings of the religion in which I had been reared, and when led to read the Bible for the first time, I was so uplifted that I knew I had found the answer to my search for God. I suffered from chronic stomach trouble, which was accompanied by great debility, constipation, and a nervous condition pronounced by medical science inherited and incurable.
It is with a heart full of joy and thanksgiving that I offer this testimony to the power of the truths of Christian Science. I first became acquainted with Christian Science through a Wednesday evening testimony meeting which I attended at the loving invitation of friends who were Christian Scientists.
Christian Science was introduced to me at a period in my life when, although I was quite young, I thought there was nothing worth living for. Our family was broken up, and due to the depression years it seemed impossible for me to obtain gainful employment.
It is with a heart filled with gratitude that I express my thanks to God, the Giver of all good, and also to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for the blessings which my family and I have received through the study and application of Christian Science.
" Tumors , ulcers, tubercles, inflammation, pain, deformed joints, are waking dream-shadows, dark images of mortal thought, which flee before the light of Truth," states our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, on page 418 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. " With deep gratitude for the privilege of having proved to some degree the above statement in my own experience, I present the following facts in the hope that they may be helpful to others.
My early years were spent in small communities where Christian Science had not been introduced. I do not recall hearing of Science until I was of high school age, and then I heard that Christian Scientists were odd people who did not call the doctor when they were ill.
Upon returning home one day from a trip, I found that my son had been brought home from another city suffering from fistula. Someone in the home had called in a physician, who had given a hypodermic, and who said that he would have to make an incision the next day.
The Bible, when speaking of Josiah, tells us that "he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord" and that "while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father" ( II Chron. 34:2, 3 ).
I am deeply grateful for the teachings of Christian Science and for the wonderful works of God, which have found expression in my life as a result of the study and practice of the teachings of the Bible and of Science and Health and other writings by Mrs. Eddy.
There has been much unfoldment of the truth in my life through my reading the testimonies in the periodicals. They have often met my need, and I trust my testimony will help someone else.
