Testimonies of Healing
It is now almost ten years since I first began the study of Christian Science, and it is hard to find words adequately to describe my gratitude. My sisters and I had always attended Sunday school in an orthodox church, but our knowledge of God did not meet our needs until we became pupils in the Christian Science Sunday School.
It is with great joy and gratitude that I tell of the good that has come into my life through the study and application of the teachings of Christian Science as found in its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and in our Leader's other writings. I have had many healings in Christian Science.
While living in a small western town some thirty years ago, I was visited by a relative whom I had not seen in over a year. On this occasion I was surprised to hear how clearly he spoke, for he had been a stammerer all his life.
With sincere gratitude for the testimonies of healing in the Christian Science periodicals, which have been a source of inspiration to me over a period of many years, I offer mine, in the hope that it may bring healing to others. Two years ago I tripped and fell to the floor with great force, which resulted in intense suffering.
I came into Christian Science seeking spiritual enlightenment, for in the orthodox church in which I was brought up I could not find the answers to many of the questions which troubled me. Although I was told to accept the Bible literally, I could not reconcile what I read with what I had been taught and with my reason.
It is with a deep sense of gratitude for all the joy that it has brought into my experience that I testify to the healing power of Christian Science. My family began the study of this Science when one of my brothers was healed of double pneumonia.
For several years I longed for a clearer understanding of God, and this desire has been fulfilled in the teachings of Christian Science. There comes a time in the experience of every Christian Scientist when we must learn to stand alone with God.
For the benefit of any who have a problem similar to one I had, I should like to relate the following experience. Tobacco was as much a part of my life as were my daily meals; my after-breakfast and after-dinner cigars were as essential to me as the meals themselves.
Speaking of Israel's rebellions and God's mercies, the Psalmist declared, "He saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. " As one who has been redeemed from the hand of the enemy, I wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge what Christian Science has done for me.
" Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!" I consider it a great privilege, as well as a sacred duty, to acknowledge through the periodicals the benefits I have received through the study and practice of the truth as revealed in Christian Science. I have been a recipient of these benefits for many years, and words are inadequate to express the gratitude I feel.
