Testimonies of Healing
It is with a sense of deep gratitude for the many blessings that have come to me through Christian Science, that I write this testimony. I was reared in a Christian home, and my mother taught me to pray, but until I took up the study of Christian Science I did not know that prayer is answered.
While visiting at the home of a relative in California, I went to her bookshelves to make a selection, and a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy caught my attention.
Christian Science was brought to me by friends who came to live in our home at a time of sorrow and depression, when I found myself dependent upon my own resources for the maintenance of my child and myself. They were Christian Scientists, and I was impressed with the logic and beauty of the teachings they presented; but I wanted to know more fully to what extent these related to the Bible.
The parable of the sower and the seed was very clearly illustrated in my experience of coming into Science; for Christian Science was brought to me three times before I was ready to accept it, showing that then only was the soil well enough prepared for the seed of Truth to grow. I have now been in Science for almost twenty-one years, and feel the need of expressing my gratitude for all it has meant in my life.
I attended the Christian Science church and casually read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, for several years before actually taking up its study in earnest. Often when reading the testimonies in our periodicals, I have felt that I should acknowledge what Christian Science has done for me. For over twenty years it has been my only recourse in time of need.
For many years I have wanted to write a testimony of what Christian Science has done for me, and it is with the sincere hope that what I write may be of help to others that I now send this testimony. I knew nothing about Christian Science, but as I had a brother who was very ill, friends whom I was visiting advised that we try it.
Although given every advantage that education, beautiful surroundings, and religious teaching could offer, I was still, after more than thirty years, groping for a satisfying concept of life, one conforming with the teachings of Christ Jesus. In the summer of 1925 my prayer was answered.
Before becoming interested in Christian Science, I had reached a stage of cynicism and agnosticism. I had been reared in an orthodox church, but, being dissatisfied with its teachings, I went to many other orthodox churches, then delved into the study of human philosophies, unity, theosophy, occultism, and socalled metaphysics, and took special courses in psychology, only to find "confusion worse confounded.
