Testimonies of Healing
Three years ago I took up the study of Christian Science in earnest. At that time the doctor gave me up to hopeless invalidism, naming my diseases as hardening of the arteries, heart trouble, and high blood pressure—a cheerful outlook for an active woman of forty-nine years who was operating a tea room! After I left the last doctor's office I was just able to reach a Christian Science Reading Room and call a practitioner, who took up the work for me, and was very patient, kind, and charitable.
I grew up in an environment of modern Protestantism, which gave me a cold and materialistic concept of the supernatural. My point of view was that of course miracles could not occur; for the rest I lived in pleasant circumstances, since our family was happy and prosperous.
When Christian Science was first brought to my attention I was a servant to many false appetites, including the desire for strong drink, gambling, and profanity. Within a period of six months this triad of errors yielded to the truth as taught in Christian Science.
It is indeed with a deep sense of gratitude to Mary Baker Eddy, who so lovingly and unselfishly made it possible for us to realize God's ever-availability, which she so clearly teaches in Christian Science, that I should like to testify to a healing I received in 1929. I had a severe case of eczema, which had kept me in bondage for thirty years.
I should like to express my gratitude for the many healings and blessings I have experienced through the study and application of Christian Science. My first healing—that of indigestion, sallow skin, and constipation, which I endured for a number of years—came through reading the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
It is with great joy and gratitude to God and Christian Science that I give this testimony. In 1914, through the recommendation of a friend, I purchased the Christian Science textbook, and while reading it I was healed of neuralgic headaches, constipation, and stomach trouble.
How very gratifying to read sometimes in our Journal and Sentinel testimonies from graduate medical nurses, who, through Christian Science, have learned what constitutes true healing! I know how helpless and dissatisfied I often felt in caring for the physical body only, and how I longed to make my patients more hopeful and happier. Because I know I have found the "pearl of great price," and because I have derived wonderful blessings from Christian Science, I am adding my testimony to those of the multitudes who have found freedom through its teachings.
In the year 1897 I was healed through Christian Science of a fibroid tumor from which I had suffered from childhood. Doctors could do me no good, and an operation was impossible.
For many blessings received through Christian Science I should like to express my gratitude in the following testimony. After having an operation on my nose, I was taken ill with pneumonia and pleurisy.
There are so many things for which I am grateful to Christian Science that I hardly know where to begin when publicly giving thanks. Although I have been a Christian Scientist all my life, and never a day has passed in which there has not been something for which to give thanks to God, two different occasions stand out especially.
