Testimonies of Healing
In sincere gratitude I wish to testify to the healing power of Christian Science. About five years ago I was taken ill while at work, and a doctor told me that I had a serious heart trouble.
Some years ago Christian Science was presented to me to heal a sense of financial loss. After I had begun reading the Christian Science textbook I found the study so practical, so understandable, and so healing for every human activity that I became a devoted student thereof.
It is with sincere gratitude that I give this testimony of the benefits received through the study and application of Christian Science. For many years and in many ways I tried to understand the Bible, but could get only a literal understanding until I began to study it in connection with the Christian Science textbook by Mrs.
I am submitting this testimony in gratitude to God. About seven years ago I was taken ill with a distressing nerve trouble which took the most severe form.
About fourteen years ago my wife and I were stationed on an extremely small island in the Pacific Ocean, where conditions seemed quite inharmonious. We found that we were unable to improve matters by moving to another town and post of duty on the island.
In an issue of The Christian Science Monitor , the space used by a certain business firm for advertising was devoted to an expression of gratitude to those who had made a certain period in their history successful. It was headed, "Thanking time has come.
I feel that it is my duty to give a short account of the wonderful healings that I have had through Christian Science. On the last day of January, 1932, I met with a serious motorcycle accident, in which one of my legs and a collar bone were broken; I also had concussion of the brain.
In March, 1929, I was diagnosed by a leading university clinic as having tuberculosis in both lungs, complicated by a tubercular larynx; and I immediately went to a sanitarium which they recommended, and at which I spent seven weeks. After a great deal of unrest and dissatisfaction, and on the advice of my physician, I left this climate for the higher altitude of New Mexico, where I spent four months in another sanitarium.
Over thirty-five years ago I was healed in Christian Science after I had undergone two surgical operations, and was told that without a third one I could live only a few months. The doctor afterward exclaimed in utter astonishment, "I don't see how they did it, for yours was no imaginary disease.
When I was a small child—supposedly frail and delicate, surrounded by overanxious care and fears, never out of physicians' hands, and having at that early age experience of operations and nursing homes—Christian Science came to lighten our darkness; and at once, through the spiritualizing of thought in the home, restored me to normal, active, happy childhood. I have since needed no physician but the truth, nor have I consulted any except on two occasions when a medical report was desired from students by school and college authorities.
