Testimonies of Healing

I lift up my heart in love and gratitude to God for His love and blessings to me and mine. We have been healed of many diseases, discords, and unhappiness.

I wish to express my appreciation and deep gratitude for Christian Science. When it found me I was discouraged and hopeless.

About six months before I took up Christian Science I had gone through a very serious operation, but had not fully recovered when the doctors said that in order to get relief I should have to undergo another operation immediately. They felt rather doubtful of the outcome, on account of the physical condition I was in at that time.

Recently my attention was attracted to the verse in Psalms which reads, "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;" and I questioned, Have I taken advantage of each right opportunity to "say so"? One definition of "redeemed" given by a dictionary which applies to this use of the word is "to free from bondage or slavery by paying a ransom or price. " When I consider the slavery which held me in bondage from girlhood into early womanhood and how the shackles were removed by the light of Truth and Love that shone upon me as I studied Science and Health, I am sure that only disobedience can keep me from testifying in a way that may bring hope and encouragement to others, namely, through the opportunity offered by the Christian Science periodicals.

For years I suffered from a nervous breakdown, and finally an increasing sense of melancholia made life unendurable for me. It became impossible for me to earn my living, and I was filled with a great fear that I might some day be taken to an institution.

It is with deep gratitude that I wish to testify to all the good that has come to my family and me through the study and application of Christian Science. While I was in the army in 1918 my wife took up the study of this Science, and when I returned home in 1919 I began studying the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly and attending church with her.

Christian Science found me when I was discouraged and ready to give up. One day when I was very ill a lady asked me to try Christian Science.

I have been reading with joy and thankfulness the many helpful testimonies of healing through the application of the truth as taught in Christian Science. I have also been rejoicing with all the writers in the freedom from sin and sickness which this truth brings; and yet I have never before sent my testimony of that same healing power, which came into our home twenty years ago.

For the past fifteen years I have been a student of all the writings of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and this study and application has brought me countless blessings. Previous to the time that I turned to Christian Science for healing from a nervous breakdown, I had not attended any church nor looked into a Bible for about fifteen years.

I first became interested in Christian Science through the benefits which I saw come to my wife through its application. I read Science and Health and was much impressed but I was not quite ready to turn to this Science for healing.
