In 1926, when I came to Christian Science, I was a physical, moral, and mental wreck, suffering from a nervous breakdown caused by worry, drink, and disappointment in friends. But what I thought at the time was a terrible calamity proved to be my greatest blessing. As Mrs. Eddy has written in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p.266), "Friends will betray and enemies will slander, until the lesson is sufficient to exalt you; for 'man's extremity is God's opportunity.' "
I was also suffering from heart trouble and stomach disorder. I had five doctors during the twelve years previous to my coming into Christian Science, but I grew worse, and not until I came to Christian Science could I eat anything I cared for. The heart and stomach trouble and the nervousness all vanished as I turned completely to God, and I have taken no medicine since the first day I went to a practitioner, six years ago. I have also been healed of the drink and tobacco habits, and of envy, jealousy, hatred, gambling, deceit.
I am grateful for the Reading Rooms, and for those dear practitioners who are always ready to help others to see the light; grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and for the privilege of helping in a small way in church activity. I thank God for Mary Baker Eddy, our beloved Leader, through whom God revealed this priceless gift to mankind.— New York, New York.
