THE UNDERSTANDING OF SOUL, AND HEALTH

From the November 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

THE understanding that there is only one Soul, the infinite God, and that the Soul of man and the universe never is contained in any material form, is the basis of health. The belief that there are so-called human souls or minds dwelling temporarily in physical bodies, which are thought to give to such bodies life and action, is a mistake and is the source of ill health.

Christian Science shows that the Soul of the spiritual universe, including man in God's image, is divine and incorporeal. This religion also reveals that health is not a property of matter, but a condition of divine Spirit or Soul. Furthermore, Christian Science proves that matter is unsubstantial, corporeal belief, which is corrected by and will finally disappear before spiritual truth. The sense of subordination to matter must be overcome by the understanding of the supremacy of Soul and its absolute control of all that actually exists.

God, the source of all reality, is self-existent, self -expressed, and self-acting. That which is causative cannot include conflicting elements, for it exists of itself and must be one in quality and in quantity. This infinite Being is the intelligent God or Mind, whom Christian Scientists love and serve, who is everywhere, and whose nature is wholly good. This is the divine Principle of the universe, the infinite Mind, which is not interfered with by any seeming opposing power or presence, which cannot be divided, and which is not affected by mortal ignorance of spiritual fact. This is the basis of existence, the center, the Soul, the Life, of all God's children. Why should one be deluded into believing in many souls or lives, when it is obvious that one all-inclusive divine Soul or Life, which is reflected by all of Mind's ideas, is the only possible basis for harmony and peace, the only true concept of perfection? Corporeality, or finite form, cannot contain the one universal good that is available for all.
